McLane Food Service Project

In late summer of 2012, we contracted with CMT, a general contractor from Addison Texas, to perform site development on a 400,000 sf distribution facility for McLane Food Services. Michels Construction was responsible for site grading (100,000 sy), utilities (sanitary, storm, fire line), curb and gutter, and asphalt paving. We were chosen because of our ability to perform all aspects of site development in addition to our willingness to work through the bidding process, and offer value added insight to the general contractor along with a sound strategy to keep the project on schedule. One of the unique aspects of this project was that it called for lime stabilization for the entire building pad and pavement areas to help keep the project going through the tough winter months as we completed site grading. Coordination of utility work while grading the site was accomplished during the winter. As the project moved into early March of 2013 we were able to immediately begin paving the site ahead of normal industry practice because we own our own asphalt plant.

It was important to us to work closely with the general contractor to insure timely project completion to allow the owner to gain occupancy and begin operations on schedule. As with any project of this size and scope changes and adjustments inevitably occur. We made it a priority to have senior management available to help facilitate the necessary changes in scope and schedule, as well as to work from start to finish with CMT’s field and office personnel to keep the project moving smoothly. We are extremely proud of our work on this project as it demonstrates our ability to tackle an entire site with our own personnel while insuring another quality project for the customer and the GC.

Since the original project we have been asked several times to return to do additional smaller concrete projects.
